The ship Timaru is clear of her inward cargo, with the exception of about 200 tons cf dead-weight. The ship Duke of Argyll has about 250 tons of deadweight to put out. The a.a Taiaroa sailed yesterday evening for Timaru. The s.s. Omapere arrived at Pott Chalmers at 0.30 p.m. yesteidsy. According to the Press, the Ruapehu had on board 12,924 carcasses cf frozen mutton and 9J7 pieces - " arms, legg, and wings." The piseenger patronage was not large, there being but some 68 passengers on board in all classes. She could have taken also a great deal mo.-c cargo, and would have had a transhipment ol hops from the s.e. Rotorua had the goods bsen here according to promise, it may be mentioned, while referring to cargo, that a small tode is springing up between this Colony and Rio de Janeiro, and ere long it may quite be expected that some business will be done in the way of carrying cargo and passengers from the port of Rio home■warda.
