Fiji news by the Penguin states-that four employes of the Demba Sugar Company while in a boat off Demba capsized. They stuck to tho boat, and were washed ashore after eight iiouw' immersion. The whole affair waa witnessed from the shore by the natives, who put off, not to rescue the drowning men, but to ascertain what amount would be paid them for so doing. The drowning men offered £5, but this was not enough, and the natives put back without rendering any help. At the Supreme Court, on January 30, bila, a native of the Line Islands, was sentenced to death for the murder of Henry Hulton, a, planter of Taviuni. The Bishop of London writes to the Church of England Committee of Suva stating that it is impossible for him to exercise episcopal supervision of Fiji, but states his iuteution^to ask Bishop Cowie, of Auckland, to include Fiji in his jurisdiction. At a meeting of the Anglicans of Levuka and Suva they unanimously concurred with the letter, and decided to write to Bishop Cowie asking him to take jurisdiction. Arthur M. B. Rose, a labour agent, schooner Fairlie, was murdered on December 15 by the natives of a small island eastward of St. Matthias.
