The public have shown such appreciation of the trotting races projected by the Dunodin Jockey Club that the Committee have resolved still further to encourage this form of racing, which has brought out an increased demand for really good upstanding roadsters. With this end in view at the Spring meeting they have offered a Consolation Trotting Race of the total cum of £40 sterling—£2s being for the first, £10 for the second, and £5 for the third. We are sure owners of good trotting roadsters will be pleased with this addition to the programme.

His accomplice has so tar escaped detection, " Augur" in the Australasian writes:—" By his victory in the Melbourne Cup MartiniHenry has proved himself one of the very best colts that ever trod a racecourse. Not only is he brilliant, but he can stay any distance, and should he and Commotion meet in the Champion Stakes, may I be there to see. It was a most disastrous day for the ring, for favourite after favourite won, and never since Chester made such sad havoc amongst them have the bookmakers received such a blow as was administered to them on Tuesday last."
