THE A. AND P. SHOW.
10 THE EDITOB. . Sib, —While agreeing to a great extent with whaf'Taieri Exhibitor " saya in his letter to the Times of the 13tb inst., I think he is evidently unaware of the many difficulties the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society has to contend with in comparison with Christehurch, The Canterbury Association has been in existence for 20 years, is poasessed of an excellent show-ground in the very heart of the city—a free gift by the Government to the Association. Within a radius of 50 miles of Christehurch every farmer not only is a member of the AsBociatioUi but vie with each other in rendering assistance to the Committee so as to ensure the success of the show. The Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association on the other hand has only been in existence for seven years, h?.s to pay a heavy rental fora show-grounev'and within a radius of 50 miles of Dunedin the farmers (with few exceptions) are not only not members of the Society, but have local shows of their own, which are mainly supported by subscriptions from Dunedin merchants and others; therefore, while the Dunedin Show receives little support from without, the city itself is so depleted by continuous subscriptions to country showß that the merchants and others are unable to give that support to their own Bhow which they otherwise would. I (juite agree with all " Taieri Exhibitor " says in regard to a horticultural show, and believe if the O. A. and P. A. can arrange about the new show-grounds that a horticultual department will be a feature in next year's programme.—l am, &c,
