FIRES AT INVERCARGILL.
(Peb United Pbes3 Association.)
Inveroakgiix, September 20,
A stack of oaten hay and a cbaffcutter were destroyed by fire on M'lntyre and Jackson's farm at Wyndham Valley. The loss is £100, and was not covered by insurance. A. thresh-ing-mill belonging to MrSheehan, near Riversdale, was also burnt. It is insurad for £300. Incendiarism is suspected. The South Invercargill Borough Hali was burnt down last night. When first observed, the fire had obtained too great a* hold to admit of anything being done. It was insured for £150 in the Royal. The safe was afterwards found unlocked among the ruins; and it is believed that nearly all the Corporation records for the last seven years have been lost, together with the valuation roll and rate-books. Rumours of incendiarism in connection with this fire are afloat. The Invercargill Hall was occupied last night by a Good Templar lodge, who had a fire burning during the night; but they state that it was reduced to a few embers when they loft, and that these were carefully raked together bofore the place was closed.
