AMUSEMENTS.

PRINCESS THEATRE,

The dramatic season at the Princess Theatro was brought to a close last evening, the per- . formanco being for the benefit of the directress of tho company, Miss Eluise Juno. There was a tolerably good house, and the performance was of an euj"jable character, though it was. by no means the best of the season, The want of time for study and robsarsul- was apparent throughout the production of Bulvver Lytton's romantic play, " The Lady of Lyons," Miss Juno being the only member of tho company whoso acting did not indicate that the time allowed for preparation had been insufficient. Miss Juno's impersonation of Pauline was successful. There- was nothing that could be characterised as extravagant or unnatural ■in her acting, and in the last scene she displayed great judgment nnd acted very effectively. Mr M'Gowan appearod as General Damas, and, as might be expected, the charactor in the hands of so experienced an actor did not fail to elicit frequent outbursts of applause. Mrs M'Gowan, as Madame Deachappellos, was very amusing. Mr E. B. Russell's Claude Meinotte was rather ponderous, and Mr Dillon did not succeed very well as Beauseant. The comedy of "Tho Bonnie Fishwife," with which the entertainment closed, waa, a3 previously, played in a manner that left nothing to be desired. Miss Juno's Maggie Macfarlane will not soon be forgotten, and great credit is due to Messrs M'Gowan, Marshall, and Medus for the manner in which they sustained the other characters in the comedy.—Tho company is announced to appear at Timaru this evening.
