In spite of threatening weather and cold wind, there was a fair attendance at the Waterloo Cup meeting to-day. At the finishing trials about 400 were present, A photograph wag taken of the group, including the nominators, officials, and many of tho running <iog«. Each trial was watched keenly, but the interest reached fever heat as the final course ueared, and ominous rumours began to te spread that the opening event was to be branded.withsuspicion of having been squared. It certainly looked suspicious when 8 to 1 on Azalea was offered without takers, but when the dogs were placed in the slips 2 to 1 ww the-lowest' price offered. The "clever'? people's facea became lengthened when Bed o' Stone was declared winner, and the cheering which gieeted Mr Crawshaw was of the heartiest kind. '■". Bed o' Stone was bred and trained by tha': owner, Mr Boaz Crawshaw) of-Dunedin, and is by Hock out pf Sea Lass (imported). Mr Deacon's Seadrift, by winning tha Waterloo Purse, scored another win. for, the Hock-Sea Lass litter. He. was trained by J, Fordward, of Christchurch. The Plate was won by Mr It. P.
