OAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Last night's meeting of this Council wila attended by tho Mayor, Crs Opfpr, Barron, Cochran, iiroadfoot, it. Wilson, Wi Wilson, Bridger, Bridgman, Edmond, M'Lnron, Moss, and Neil. KKi'OETa.
Tho Works Cominitteo reported that thoy had accepted Mr B. Ollerenshaw's tender (£1 10s (id per chain) for kerbing tho footpath from Allandale road to Victoria street—stono kerbing at 3s per lineal yard.—Adopted, Tho Tramway Committeo reported having appointed Mr Cochran as chairman.— lie the letter from Mr Proudfoot's attorney) the Committeo recommended that tho Council give their consent to tho assignment of Mr David l'roudfoot's agreement and privileges in connoetion with the tramway to the Dunodin City and Suburban Tramways Company (Limited), the assignment to be subject to tho approval of the borough solicitor, and the Company paying all costH.—Adopted. Tho Gas Committeo reported that they had appointed Cr Cochran chairman.
The Tiro Brigade Committee reported the appointment of the Mayor as chairman, and recommended that the Chairman, Crs Moss and M'Laren be elected to organise a fire brigade. —Tho report was not adopted. 'I ho Finance Committee recommended the adoption of the following estimate of revenue and expenditure for the ensuing year. Revenue: Kent of quarry, £120; tramway, £16 13a 4d ; town hall t £-10 ; dog tax, 1-10; licenses, £510 ; outstanding rates, kerbing, and rents, £100; rates necessary to ba raised at Is in the pound on £31,294 10s—rateable value, £1504 14s Cd; —total, £25217s lOd. Expenditure : Salariesclerk and collector, £220; inspector of works, £182; land for widening Main South road, £100; contracts on hand, £72 15s Gd; rofunda for works and deposits, £56 ; insurance, advertising, stationery, £30; outstanding liabili ies, wages, &c, £154 2s 8d; overdraft at bank, £1403 la 8d ; works, £30 3s Sd ;—total, £2521 7a lOd —Adopted. COHniiSPONDE.VOfi. Henry Holmes asked the Council to tako over the road between Royal terrace and the Forbury road.—Received. Ray, Win. Ronaldson wrote asking for the use of tho Town Hall for an entertainment, — Granted, providing the hall is not engaged. The Dunedin Town Cleric wrote stating that Council's request to extend Philip street, Kensington, had been declined by the City Council. —The lettor was received.
