Brokers: Messrs LEDGER & HICKSON, CUSTOM-HOUSE QUAY, WELLINGTON ; And J. C. MORRIS, DUNEDIN. This Property, lately known as the Weat Wasganul Coalfield, which it is proposed to transfer to the new Company, is held by the proprietors under two leases from the Crown of 320 acres each for 30 years, at a total rental of £32 per annum and a royalty ot 6d per ton, or one-flftieth part of the coal raised. It is situated in the West Wanganui Inlet, on the north-west coast of the Middle Island, 100 miles from Nelson, 160 miles from Wellington, 10 miles south of Cape Farewell, and about 20 miles by road from ColKngwood (in Golden Bay). This inlet, or land-locked harbour, is the best on the West Coast, covering a distance of some nine miles in length by one and a-half in breadth, and being acted upon by the sea only, is never subject to floods while considering its contiguity to all the centres of population, it is calculated that screw steam colliers mil be enabled to make from eight to ten trips per month. The Coal is good for all-round purposes, and is well known in Wellington, Wanganui, Nelson, and other places as the cleanest and best " household." The contiguity of the Mine to the proposed Staiths, and to the entrance of the Inlet, greatly enhances its value, as vessels will be enabled to load and put to sea with despatch. The atatißticß of 1881 show the increasing demand in New Zealand for coal and the inability of our collieries to meet the same; although in tbat year 80,000 tons more were raised than in the previous year, tbe imports from Australia were also greater during tbe same period, and it ia said by those competent to judge, that if all the coal-mines at work and projected in New Zealand were properly developed, there would still be a steady and increasing demand. Operations can be commenced and the Mine opened out and coal put in tbe market without considerable -xpense. The surface works will be extended as the Dutput increases. It is therefore proposed that the Company shall proceed to work the Mine as soon as 1000 Shares (irrespective of Promoters' Shares) have been subscribed [or. The field presents the greatest advantages for an jconomicat working. The Coal measuring on an average ibout 3it 6in thick, is the oasiest to work (on the 'Longwall" system) for the production of large coal .vithout slack or waste. The strata above the Coal are loft, and shafts can be put down without the use of powder. There ia abundance of mining timber close it hand, and plenty of fresh water and other natural idvantages which go far to increase the value of the Hine. The present Proprietors, in order to satisfy themlolves that tho Coal extended over a large area, lately, it considerable expenae, put down several bore-holes, vhich were attended with thoroughly satisfactory remits, and it is estimated that the property will yield "wo and a-half Million Tons of Coal, or about 300 Cons Por Day for 30 Years. It is estimated that when the surface works .re constructed, and the Mine opened out, 2000 ons of Coal can be raised por week, and put on board hip at a cost of 7s per ton, and sold at from 13s to 15s >er ton, leaving a profit of say 6s per ton, or on 2000 '600 per week. The estimates given below are for the full compleion of the Works. The Proprietors will reserve to thomselvea 1300 aid-up Shares for expenses incurred proving tho j .ease and for their interest in the Mino. These hares will not bo transferable until a dividend shall 3 c paid on the subscribed Capital. 8 Over 300 Shares have already been taken up by tho reßent Proprietors. ! Tho original Report and Estimates made by Mr ames Russell, Mining Engineer (who also carried out ac Prospecting Worka), may be seen at tho Offices of tesars Ledger and Hickson, Custom-house Quay, Wellington.
