HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD.
The Board of Governors of fcho High Schools met yesterday afternoon. Present: —Dr Stuart (in the chair), Hon. K. Oliver, Hon. W. If lieyuolds, the Mayor (Mr J. Gore), Profcss»j Shand, Prof et-sor Macgregor, and Mr J. I'lilton, M.H.K.
Mr Oscar David forwarded his resignation of the office of gymnastic teacher at the High School, and Mr J. B. Thallon forwarded his of the position of teacher in the Girls' School.
Messrs Oliver, l<\iltoii, and Shand were appointed a committals to draw up conditions for the sale of the JJoardV land at Strath Taieri.
Mr George Gray Kussell wrote intimating that he had decided to give to the Board the sum of £1000, to be invested for the purpose of founding a scholarship or scholarships at the Otiigo University. There were curtain conditions in connection with the gift, one being that the fund be called the "George Gray Russell Beho'.arship I'uiid," and that the scholarship
or scholarships founded under it be open only to students at the University who. >av?..attended either the Boys' or the Girls : turn School for at least brie school year immediately preceding tlie examination.—The meeting instructed the chairman to thankfully acknowledge Mr Russell's handsome gift.
