t Wellington, August 27th. , It is still supposed that Parliament will prorogue some day next week —some say on.Tuesj day or Wednesday, others Friday, but there ii a general concensus of opinion that the prorogation will take place between the 4th and 9th September. There is a small minority .of mejni bers who are strongly opposed,to,"Bciirrjrili^' the business in this way, it being, obviously, impossible to do more than, look at most of ;th« session work which has been so lonjj trifled with, and shuffled off from day to; day and week to week. It ia pointed out. py these mem. bers that the duration of the .session has not yet really reached the average of the last eightor tes years, and that a five months'session is ey.QJi more necessary now, in view of ithe vast accu/ mulation of qrrears.of work, which has to bt> cleared off, than it was in the two successive years some time back, when the session lasted that time. They urge that at least the 'Bank, ruptcy Bill, the Local Government' Bills, and all the Consolidation Bills' ought, to'be. passed before Parliament prorogues; .but p a» even the Land and L'oaii Bills are riot yet through, and, have to be finished this we.ek, it is easy to sea there is not the remotest prospec^ of the.measures just, mentioned bei^ig touched unless members will consent to gp oif a week. ? r. twp longer. I fear; however, that the majority anxious to draw their balance of honorarium and be off. and that Government will not be very sorry to see tHeir backs: '•'.■•• , ~ There is a rumour afloat, which oeems to increase in strength daily, to the. effect that there is a chance pf the Ministerial vacancy, being filled early iti the rpee,pg by Sir' John Hall rejoining .his old colleßgtieß—hot an Pre. mier, but as Postmaste'r-fleneral. This would restore the former Balance, idf power by raj placing a Canterbury' nian in the Cabinet, ana there is nb doubt that Sir Jolin's. return to tlie Ministry woilld be very acceptable to, the country. I have not, of courae, heard a *ord on this sußject from Ministers 6t.Sir JoHii HaU as yet; the matter being oiie which would be indiscreet to talk about until settled, but undoubtedly the impression in 1 tHe, best-iii: formed political qiiarterg is tHat stich a thmg is, to say the least, hot at .all unlikely.
