CITY COUNCIL.
The following are reports of Committees to be presented at the meeting of City Council to-night:— O.AS COMMITTEE. 1. Your Committee has decided to further reduco the price of coke, screened and small, to the extent of Is per ton, in order to encourage increased consumption by householders and others. 2. The following tenders have been accepted:—For removing and re-erecting gate pillars, George Huntor, £9 12s ; for purchase for removal of old house at tho Gasworks, H. Nind, £20. 3. Pay-sheets and accounts have been passed amounting to £1754 13s 3d. 4. Tho Gas Engineer's report and fortnightly roturns are hereto attached. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Your Committee begs to report having passed acounts as per warrants attached, amounting to— Municipal, No. 1 account .. £1209 1 6 Water, No. 2 do .. 173 7 7 O»8, No. 3 do .. 1412 7 i Total .. .. .. £2825 13 i The City Treasurer's financial statement, for the information of Council, is hereto attached. In reference to the arrears of municipal and water rates, the Town Clerk has publicly notified that the collector, in addition to serving the formal statutory demand for payment of city and water rates, will only make one call, thus giving a final notice prior to his taking legal steps for the recovery of any amounts in arrear. WATER SUPPLY COMMITTEE.
1. Your Committee recommends :— That the annual allowance of £25 to Mr Sligo, inspector of the Silverstream race, for horse-hire, voted for one year by Council on the 9th August, 1881, be continued fora further term of 12 months. That repairs be effected on the house occupied by Mr Sligo, Wliare Flat, in order to make it properly habitable; the outlay not to exceed £20. 2. Your Committee is arranging with the Caversham Borough Council to have the water turned on from the Silverstream mains on the 14th inst. With the consent of the Caversham Council a 2-inch galvanised iron pipe will be kid under a portion of Anderson's Bay road from the Silverstream main, to join with the lj-inch main already laid near the City Gasworks, thus securing a supply of water direct to the Gasworks. 3. The erection of' a house at the south reservoir for the caretaker is nearly completed, and as the contract price is less by £20 than the sums voted by the Council for the house, your Committee has authorised the expenditure of the said balance in removing the old cottage to a new site, and converting it into a store and tool-house. 4. Pay-sheets have been passed amounting to £35 14s. PUBLIC WOIIKS .COMMITTEE.
1. In reference to the memorial from Mr James Mackerras and others, urging the extension of Regent road and formation of a footpath from Queen street to the Maori road, your Committee recommends that such works be not undertaken at present, the cost being estimated at £30.
2. The City Surveyor has been instructed as follows:—(1) To act as to Mr R. C. Leask'g application for permission to erect a signboard in Princes street and lamp in Dowling street. (2) To repair Duke street, between Great King street and Town Belt, with a few loads of road metal.
3. The following permissions have been granted, viz.:—(1) To Mr J. Wilkinson to erect a contractor's shed at the' new Odd-Fellows' Hall,' Stuart street; the shed to be removed on expiry of the builder's contract. (2) To Mr Roach (building modification 405), to build the party wall of lodge-room, new OddFellows' Hall, 14in thick, or 9in thick with piers, in accordance with the Building Regulations. (3) To Mr Lowe (building modification 408), to cover a gangway at back of Dr Martin's house, Octagon, with wood and glass, instead of brick; the woodwork to be lathed and cemented. (4) To Mr S. Reading (building modification 409), to erect a workshop with 12-inch hollow walls, with piers, in Bath street. (5) To Mr Quick (building modification 410), to build 12-inch hollow walls, with piers in centre, at back of shop, north end of Great King street. 4. Letters have been forwarded as follows :— (1) To Mr David Andrew and Mr John Andrew, notifying that the Corporation will enforce the bond in the event of their refusing to carry but their part of the contract in respect of the city nightsoil. (2) To Messrs Reid, Geddes, and Sligo, trustees for sections 44 and 45, block IX, Dowling street, stating that Council absolutely declines to negotiate with them in respect of the said sections, the permanent levels of Dowling street having been fixed. (3) To the owners of wooden offices on the reclamation ground, Vogel. and Rattray streets, requiring the immediate removal of the said offices.
5. Pay-sheets and accounts have been passed amounting to £76819s lid.
