MINING.
(Cromwell Argus.)
The settlement of the ownership of the quartz-reef lately discovered by Eintoul and party on the Carrick Range, which had caused a good deal of excitement at the Baunockburn was decided by Warden Keddell on Friday. After evidence had been taken on both sides, tlie Warden threw out the application of Buchanan and Co. on the ground of non-com-pliance with the regulations respecting marking out. The application of Smith and party was then dealt with, and the Warden decided against them also, on the ground that proper notice had not been served.on the parties interested. Eintoul and party were granted their claim, and the remainiug portions of the ground marked in the lease was granted to \\. Asher. The prize that has thus been so strenuously fought for is thought to be a valuable one. We are informed that an analysis of ? ™wl parcel of stone from the reef, sent to Wellington per Mr M'Kay, and in which no gold was visible to. the eye, gave results quite startling in their richness. If this be so, it is likely that not much time will be lost in commencing operations by the leaseholders.
