MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENTS.

Two entertainments—one in aid of the Opoho Wesleyan Church, and the other in aid of the West Harbour Church fund—were given last night. The former was held in the hall of the Trinity Wesleyan Church, Moray place, and was the more'successful of the. two, especially with respect to the attendance, the hall being comfortably filled. The names of several talented vocalists, among them those of Misses Hall, Christie (2), and Bolton, and Messrs Stockwell, Fitzer, Haase, and M'Alpin, figured on the programme;, and besides the'vocal and instrumental selections several other items, such as recitations and telephone experiments, were introduced into the entertainment. A pianoforte trio, Mozart's " Gloria " was rendered with precision and taste durinsr the second part of the performance by Mrs and Miss Howarth and Mr Lomas (who accompanied the. vocalists). Another pleasing feature in the programme was the singing by Miss Christie of the well-known song Sweethearts"; and Miss Bolton was even more successful with her selection. 'Mr Wood gave a reading from "Handy Andy" which on account of its length, and the late hour to which the concert: was protracted might have been omitted with advantage. At the close of the entertainment the Chairman (the Key. Joseph Berry) in a few felicitous remarks expressed a wish that it would not be long before another similar entertainment was inaugurated. He was sure they were all pleased with it, and he could honestly say it was the best of the kind he had ever witnessed in New Zealand.

The schoolroom of All Saints' was chosen for the West Harbour concert, which, oh account of the, inclemency of the weather, had been postponed from last Friday. On this occasion, although, as was the: ease with the former concert, the admission was fixed at the lowrate of Is, theattendance was only moderate Mr T. V. Twinning presided at the pianoforte' and the majority of the singers acquitted themselves m a very creditable manner
