PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Innes), Crs Dodson, AW Perry, Chick, Morkane, M'Kenzie, and -K-itcme. The meeting was convened for the purpose of meeting Messrs Elder and M'Kcnzie ta make arrangements for the future supply of gas to the town. ■; J
Cr MoBKANE proposed, and Cr M'Kexzie geponded-^ < That the term of lease be 21 years st* TssH °L £M anil"alJy for the first five* years, £20 for the second five years, and an advance of £1Q every successive five years until the end of the term. The Corporation, to R liberty t Q purchase the plant and business at any- time thoy may wish to do so, the price to be tvrranged by arbitration. The lessee to have the sole right to supply gas to the town. The quality of gas to be equal to that supplied to the city of l)unedin, or not less than 10-candle power - the lessee to charge at tho rate of £— per 1000 cubio feet for gas supplied to ratepayers, wttK a discount of 2o per cent, to all consumed w\£ pay their gas-bills before the 12th of tlie month—the Corporation agreeing toi' light not fewer than 12 lamps at the rate of £3 per lamp and to increase that number aj jtffen as their funds will permit and it is thought requisite • the lessees to lay pipes at tligir cost to the biuiding-hne for consumers ; on the expiry of; tho term the lease to b.e put up at auction, butcompensation for all plant and business to be allowed as against an incoming tenant " °\ Do"n?u X lnoved the following amendment:-« That the Lighting ooramitte 6 ?^tli the Mayor, wait on Mr Genevor Ml d consult him re the easing of the gaaworks site and procure specifications for the works " Ihe amendment ■ffas not seconded Ttjo foUowing CQunciUora voted for the rnpt,pr> ; _Cr B fotchje, ; Qhick, Morkane' and IW Against ifc:-Crs Dodson and Cr Allen refused to vote, On the motion of Or Mobkaxe, seconded by Cr Ch ck, Mr Eider was invited to hear the conditions read.
This done, and Mr Elder having replied Cr M'Ke.vzie moved, and Cr Ritchip ponded-" That the blank in the d«Kn. ditions of lease be filled up by Mr Elder and that the Council accept the terms if they coT sider them reasonable."
