CRICKET.
A fair gathering of .spectators assembled fit the" Caledonian grounds qu Saturday to witness a match between the Dunedin and Carisbrook. Clubs, and thair pumber would doubtless have been considerably increased had not an uncomfortably high wind prevailed, which .destroyed in a great measure the enjoyment of. onlookers., and interfered slightly .with the play at times. Tho Dunedin men, who played one short, west first to ,the wickets, and were dia-, posed of "for 1% runs, only'W. Frith getting into double figures. Ccoss was again the successful bowler, taking 7 wickets for 25 runs. Carisbrook followed,'and when time was called, haid scored 77 for eight wickets, C. Frith, the successful boivjer for Dunedin, having taken three; wickets .(two iif as many .overs) for 24 runs. S. Leith Stumppd .tw,o batsmen very neatly. On Saturday the Albion First Eleven met Fifteen of the Grange Club, on the Albion pitch. Some good,play was. displayed, and the came as it stands is slightly in.favour of the Fifteen. For the Albions Clarke, with 9 and 14, and M'Lennau 19 and 1, were the chief scorers, while W. Murray made 10 for the Grange. _ M'Lonnan and Barrou bo\yled well, their averages being 19 runs for eight wickets and 37 for six respectively. For the Grange the brothors Turiibull bowled well, A. Turnbull taking four wickets for 31 runs, and P. Turnbull five wickets for 23 runs. At a quarter to li the Albions commenced their second innings, and when time was called had lost four wickets for 2!) runs. The match will bo continued next Saturday.
The Excelsior Second Eleven met the Albert First ou the Asylum ground, and the match resulted in a draw in favour of the former club. The scores wore —Alberts 111, of which Russell made 3S, Doudor 24, and Smith 14; Excelsiors, G8 for four wickets. Brown and Henderson contributed 22 and 15 respectively, the former being not out. Sargood's First Eleven met Fergusson and Mitchell's Club on the Oval on Saturday. The game resulted in a win for Sargood's Club, they making SI runs to their opponents' 33. Uisher (17), Northcote (10), Hadfield (13), and Taylor (13), played well for Sargood's, and M'F.-irlane (18), for the losers. Hadfield and. Branson bowled well for the victors, and Holgate and M'Farlane for the vanquished. The match Wavorley v. Southern First Elevens resulted in a victory for the former Club by 24 runs; the scores being—Waverley, 55 and G9; Southern, 31 and .14, for seven wickets. The bowling of Evans and Hunter, for the Waverley, was very destructive, each obtaining an average of 2 livns per wicket.
