THE EXIGENCIES OF RHYME.
The following fantastic Bpecimen of Yankee* humour appeared in the last number of Scribner's Monthly, which magazine is in future to be known as The Century :— A wandering tribo, called the Siouxs, Wear mocassins, having no shiouxs.
They aro made of buckskin, With tho fleshy side in, Embroidered with beads of bright hyiouxs. When out on the war-path, the Siouxs March Binglo file—never by tiouxs — And by." .blazing " the trees Can return at thoir ease, And their way through the forests ne'er liouxs, All now-fashioned boats-he eschiouxs, And usos tho birch-bark caniouxs ; These-'are handy and light, And, inverted at night, Give shelter from storms aud from dyiouxs. The principal food of the Siouxs Is Indian maize, which they briouxs 'And hominy make, Or mix in a cake _; And etit it with pork, as they chiouxs. .
Now doesn't thiß spelling look cyiouxrious? "Tia enough to make anyone fyiouxrious ! So a word to the wise ! t Pray our language revise With orthography not so iiijiou.xrious.
