The object oi tho proposed Company shall bo to prospect tho reefa in the Tuapeka County by aid o ' the diamond-drill, and the alluvial ground by means lof tho moat suitable boring-machine availablo. ' [ It is a well-known fact that numerous reefs bearing gold, copper, antimony, &c. exist iv the Tuapeka ! County that only require to be prospected by such au admirable machine aa the diamond-drill to provo their mineral extent and determine whether they can be profitably worked. Tho intention of the Company is not at present to purchase a diamond-drill, but to apply a portion of its capital towards paying the working expenses of one to be aupplied by the Government to the Tuapeka County Council. Should the Company, ho\yever, determine to purchase one of theae drilla, the Govern-, ment havo liberally offered to subaidise them to the I extent bf £750 for that purpoae. Tho Proviaional Directora, having obtained a large quantity of valu- ■ able inforniition from a variety of aourcea, including letters from Professor Ulrich and Dr Hector, on the capabilities of tho diamond-drill, find that while it is admirably adapted for penetrating reefs or any hard substance, ib ia not ao *yell suited for alluvial ground " They have thereforo made themselves acquainted , with the beat modern appliancea lor boring in alluvial ground, and ono of the first efforts of the propoaed Company will be to Obtain a boring-machine well fitted for testing the cemented drift deposits of Tuapeka, Waitahhna, and Waipori Flats. Machi *ea well adapted for this purpose are now to be had at a cost of about £200, with flttinga complete, and Government have offered to subßidisc the Company to the extent of £150 for the purchase of ono of these boring-machinca. There cab be no doubt as to the auriferous nature, of these cements, and it is well known that they ox- ' tend over a vast area *f country ; but the ordinary process of sinking prospecting shafts is so expensive as to be beyond the reach of private enterprise. With the latest improved machines, boring can bo effected at the rate of 21 feet per hour by manual power, and a thick core of"the strata penetrated brought to the surface, and exposed for examination. Calls in the proposed Company have been fixed at tho rate of 3d per week per share, to be called up monthly. This small sum haa been decided upon to - brinj-c the claims of tho Company within the reach ) of all. The advantages to Shareholders will be as follow :— In the event of any payable reefs or deposits being discovered, each Shareholder will bo entitled to an interest iv the discovery in proportion to the number of shares ho holds, and it will bo^at the option of the Company to sell their discovery to tho best advantago or work it themselves, as may bo deemed most advisable. Tho Proviaional Directors havo every reason to believo that the Company will be a financial sucooss, besides in a large degree developing the mineral resources of tho County. Copies of tine Prospectus, and Forms of Application for Sharoa, may bo obtainod from any of tho Provisional Directora, or from tho Brokers of the Company. The Share-liat will close on 21th December, 1831. Government Notifications. t- PROVINCIAL GAZETTE. I . " rpHE OTAGO t)AILY TIMES .
