RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Friday, 21st October, (Before W. L. Simpson, Esq., R.M.) In the following cases judgment was giyon for the plaintiffs by default:—Otago Daily Times Co. v. Thos. Allan, claim £4, for subscriptions duo; G. M. Aldrich v. H. Rose, claim £3, for goods supplied (judgment for £7); M. Hislop v. W. Pedio, claim £3 8s 3d, for nionoy lent. John Doyle v. John Stokea and another. — Claim £15, for injuries to cattle. —In, this previously-heard case his Worship delivered judgment, Baying that the. question turned upon hvhat might reasonably bo termed " wandoring at large." The cattle had undoubtedly accidentally got astray, and tho defendants were attempting to impound them, but there seemed reason to beliove that they were or had been in the custody of a boy. His Worship then recapitulated the main points of the case, and in conclusion said that the cattio had been illegally taken possession of, and lie must therefore give damages for tho injuries they had sustained.—Judgment was given for £4, with costs. 11. H. Bailey v. J. T. Tolfer.—Claim £16, value of a gold bracelet alleged to have been damaged whilst in tho possession of tho defendant.—Mr Mouat appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Hay for tho defendant.—From the;,] evidence it appeared that tho defendant went;t to plaintiff's shop and said that he had ft cus-|I tomer for a certain set of jowelleiy (produced). :£ The prico was quoted him at £1-1, and ho took i it away, expressing his intention of getting £1S for it. The transaction, which was to bo a cash one, however, fell through, and the articles were returned. Plaintiff, however, subsequently found that tho bracelet wast damaged, as though by some heavy pressure.— \l A number of witnesses were examined j\s to.;t the nature and extent of tho alleged damage ; \ and judgment was given for £1 12s Cd, with I costs.—-A further claim was made of £7 23!"
