LAND BOARD.

» The ordinary weekly meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday. There wero present: —The Chief Commissioner, J. P. Maitland, Esq. (In the chair); Messra J. B. Bradshaw, lames Green, Henry Clark, and John Bathjate. Messrs Connell and Moodie appeared on behalf of Gideon A. Smith re his application to purchase. BO acres in block IV, Teviot district. —The Board now gave their decision in this matter, the application being approved of subject to applicant obtaining unconditional assent of the ranholdors, Messrs Cargill and Anderson. , ■ , GLENOHARU. The New Zealand Woodware Company's application for 14 acres in the Glenomaru district was considered. — Messrs Connell and Moodie appeared for the applicants, and it was decided to defer consideration of the matter for a week- ' . OTABA. Messra Connell and Moodie appeared on be half of R. Maguire to hear the decision of the Board in the matter of his application for a license for water-race and dams in the Otara district. —Consideration of the matter was de ferred until a notice of the application be gazetted. KIKBORN. Messrs Connell and Moodie also appeared on behalf of James Creighton, Jo!m Creighton, and Arthur Sharkey, who applied to purchase sections 10, 9, and 5 respectively, in block 11, Kyeburn district, tho Bectioca being held under deferred-payment lease. —The Board deoided to grant the applications. WAKEPA. The Engineer of the Clutha County Council forwarded a plan of the roads bounding section 2 on the north, and section 1, block "VIII, Warepa district, on the enst, for the approval of the Board, under section 59 of the Land Act, aa it was the intention of the Council to expend L 92 5i on the Bame. —The plans were approved of by the Board. WTNDHAM. Kanger Hughan reported on the application of James Shirley for a lease of section 61, block I, Wyndham district, and recommended that the application bo granted.—The matter was referred to the County CouncilTUTOKAU. The same ranger reported on the application of W. Wearing to lease or purchase the reserve fronting sections 50, 40, 41, and 42, block 111, Tuturau district. He stated that the portion of the reserve opposite sections 41 and 42 was reqnired for gravel for road purposes, but recommended that that portion opposite Bectiooe 40 and 50 be leased.—lt was resolved to iesne licenses to owners of sections 40, 39, and 50, for the portion of land between these sections and the river; the remainder of the reserve, opposite sections 41 and 42, to be retained, being required for gravel. NASEBY. The Warden at TsTaseby forwarded an application by Jame3 Quin and W» Wood to purchase 10 acres of land at their coalpit site on Ran 225, Gimmerburn district, and recommended the same for the favourable considera. tion of the Board—The Board decided to comply with the request. * AGRICOLTUBAL LEASES. The following applications were granted:— D. M'Lannan, section 4, block V, Lower Hawea, and D. Evans, sections 41 and 45, block 111, Tuapeka Eiat. BLACKSTONEGeorge Pricj applied, under Bection 66, Mines Act, to purchase 50 acres in block VIII, Blaokatone. Charles Rose and Joseph Howell applied to purchase 22* 2r 19p in the same district. —The matter was recommended for the approval of the Government. GOLD-MINING LEASES. The following applications for gold-mining leases were sabnrittwl to the Boird:—A. M'Nab, section 6, block XVIII, Tuapeka East; Greit Extended Slaicing Co., section 8 !.l:jck XVIII, Tuapeka East; W. Erans and Sods, section 11, block XVIII; J. M'Hattie and Sous, section 55, block XVIII; and S. Johnston and Co., section 19, block XVIII, and section 15 in the same block, Tuapeka East district. —Tae leasea were gcautedAGRICULTURAL LEASES. The following certificates of application for agricultural leases were submitted to the Board for their approval • —J. -Sutherland, Bection 30, block VI, Table Hill; and J. White, section 18, block. VI, same dittrict. — Tho Board approved of the applications. APPIOATION3 TO PURCHASE. Two applications were received to purchase under agiicultural lease, viz : —K. Olds, for section 2, block 111, Cromwell; and — ITilz gerald, for section 38, block VI, Tuapeka East, —Applications granted. OAMABU, Robert Wilson lodgod an objection to the application mado by Jamas M'Kenzie for a license to quarry on the old road south' ol section 48, block 111, Cimaru, and applied to purchase a portion of same in order to prevent the road being closed up by the quarrymen, who were in the habit of throwing screenings on the road in the mornings and evenings wher no ooe saw them.—lt was decided not to den with the matter till the ranger's report was received. MAUNOATDA. Jeremiah Colman applied to purchase 20 acres of the bush reserve udjoiuiog the village in block VIII, Maungatua.—lt was decided tc request the Chief Surveyor to make a survey as soon as possible, in order to open s portion of the reserve for sale at an earl; date. OTEPOPO. The lessee of the slate quarry at Otepopc requested the Board to cancel his lease, and asked that the rent now due be remitted.—lt was decided to ask the Government to comply with the request, and to remit the rent now due to the amount of L 42 2« 6d-SWIMMING-BATHS. Messrs Slevwright and Stont applied for a transfer of license No. 101, for the site fo swimming-bath at the Ocean Beach, from G L- Kingston to the New Zealand Woodwar Factories Company.—lt was decided to gran the request, subject to the rent now due bein, paid. * GLBNOMABU. Messrs Sievwrfaht and Stoat also applied, oi behalf of Messrs Dickaon, Gleuom&rn, for trans fer of license No. 93, for timber sawmilling, froo them to thrf New Zealand Woodware Factorie. Company.—Tha application was granted.
