MONDAY, ADOUST 18. Wellington—Taiaroa sailed 12.80 p.m. for Picton >£c Anau sailed 3.45 p.m. for Lyttelton. Pictoa—Taiaroa arrived from Wellington; sailed for Napier—Penguin arrived from Wellington ; Bails for Olsborne. Taranaki-Hawea arrived 10 a.m. from Nelsoncalled 6 p.m. for Manukau. '

The schooner Martha Roid left the Port on Sunday night with cargo for Oamaru. The barque Arabj Maid was totfed cloar of the Heads yesterday morning by the r.e. Plucky, and sailed for Auckland to complete loading for a Home port The schooner Pioneer Bailed yesterday morning for the ToMois.

Tho brigantino Eli2a Firth, from Greymouth, arrived ot Port Chalmers oh Sunday evening, and anchored until yesterday morning when she weighed and proceeded up to Duncdin. On August Bth the wind veered to S.W., blowing a perfect hurricane and attended by a mountainous sea, which at 8 a.m. broke on board, filling the decks and bursting opou tho cabin doors, fillinir both the main cabin and Btaterooms with water, while It washed away the battens and tarpaulins of the after and main hatchways; the gale increased in strength on the next day attended by terrific squalls, the wind shifting from W.B.W. to aouth, and the sea breaking on board and fflling the cabin three times, the vessel being completely under water but behaving admirably. The ship Peter Stuart has met with quick despatch. She l«w already cleared her 'tween-decks of cargo, which is turning out in splendid order.
