The ketch Good Templar sailed yesterday with cargo ior the Bluff. " The barquentine Jasper was towed down from Duncoin yesterday morning, and brought up in Mansford Bay.

The schooner Itaid of Otago arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday forenoon with cargo from the South. She left Riverton on the 28th ult., and experienced, fresh S.W. winds until she pas3ed the Bluff, and thence she encountered fresh N.E. winds'alone the coast to arrival. . ? The B.s. Beautiful Star arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon. She left Westport on the 28th ult and experienced light variable winds until she passed • Cape Farewellat 4 p.m. on :the next day; met strong lead winds, and, breasted Cape Campbell at 2 p.m. on •the 2nd inst.; thence she experienced light southerly winds; and sighted'Akaroa Heads at 2 p.m. on the 3rd inst. r afterwards she had-steady northerly winds to , i*mva1.,..,.. i; ~: ;fp-T v ..' .'ji --:■■■■ -y, r : ; The sis. Wanakaj with eahrb' and1 passengers from the North, reached Port Chalmers at 1 a.m. yesterday. She left Onehuriga at 1.30 p.m. on the 22nd ult., and Teaened-Taranalri/next day at 6.40 a.m.; left there at 0.30 p.m., and arrived at Nelson at 4.30 a.m. on the Stth ult.';;_v sailed thence at 1.30 p.m., and called "at Pieton, finally arriving; at Wellington at 6 a.m.dh" the . next .day; -left;again at 0.10 pm., and arrived at liyttelton at 6.16 a.m. on the 26th ult;; left there at 9.20 p.m. for the North, with the Southern portion of the outward (Home) mail via San Francisco, and *e«hed Wellington at 3.30 p.m. on the 27th ult.; on the next day, she started on .her usual trip to Picton and lielson, returning from those ports at 4.30 a.in on *ne 2nd inst., leaving Wellington again at 1.20 p.m. . on that day; arrived at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. on the 3rd wist.; sailed from- that port at 0.60 p.m., called at Akaroa, and arrived in harbour as above. "After leaving Taranaki "on the 23rd ult. she met a strong ■outh-west gale, which continued until she reached Nelson ; thence she had fine weather to arrival. We thank Mr Fenwick (the purser) for .report and files. ; Captain Anderson, the late chief officer of the Union Company's steamer Wakatipu, left the .vessel at Wellington, in order to take command of the Company's steamer Wellington. Prior to leaving the Wakatipu the seamen : of the vessel, desirous of marking their appreciation of Captain Anderson's good qualities, determined to present him with a souvenir of their ■regard, and Mr Swanson, the winchman7on behalf :of liis shipmates, handed Captain Anderson a massive' gold rmg, set with coral, expressing at the same time the warm wiahes of the donors for that gentleman's continued prosperity and good health. Captain*An-nersonmade-an appropriate reply, and afterwards ■enjoyed.a few minutes', social converse with his old Shipmates, who one and all expressed their regret at parting with him. -° Tho ketch Owake Bell was hauled off Sutherland's Slip yesterday afternoon. • I The ketch Jessie worked down from Dunedin yesterday afternoon. - ; +T.Thw Wes'ernfstar Bays:—"The telegraphstation; at the Nuggets, near Port, Jlolyneux, was, we believe erected for the-purpose of enabling the owners or agents of the many vessels which from time to time seek shelter there, being apprised of the whereabouts of overdue crafts. The master of a vessel trading between Riverton and Danedin has twice mode application, while lying there, to have a message transmitted, but was refused without any reason being assigned. The circumstance calls for inquiry." ■'.
