THE LONDON MARKETS.

The ( New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London" office, dated April 21st:— "Wool.—The sales opened with spirit on the 20th inst., at an average advance of Id to l^d on previous sale prices. The .opening catalogue contained 8500 bales, and the sales will comprise about . 380,000. 30,000 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active, although trade in the manufacturing districts is not so good. Continental markets are lightly stocked. The advance in prices since last sales may be quoted as follows:—Greasy and clothing (washed), Id per lb; combing (washed), 2d; scoured, Id to l§d; crossbred, superior greasy and superior combing (washed), id to Id per lb. For Jambs' wool the market is unchanged. The sales will close on 12th Jnne, and the next series will commence oii 17th August. Tallow is dull of sale. Quotation for best mutton, 33s b'd per cwt; and for best beef, 32s per cwt. Wheat: Market flat. Adelaide is worth 545, and New Zealand 52a per 4961b."
