(from oub own correspondents.) Auckland, J unp 17th. At the inquest on tho fire at Cunningham's Hotel, Onehunga, au open verdict was returned. At the Licensing Court's adjourned meeting the magistrates granted licensts to house:; in ■which required repairs had been effected, and to the Nevada Hotel. Tha magistrate! stated that after two convictions in one year they wenld not renew licenses or grant sew one3. A fierca gale is blowing. The s.b. Wanaka put to sea, but the Pretty Jans und Southern Cross postponed sailing till to-morrow. At the Government land sale the bidding ■was not spirited. The Governor, the Hon. J. Sheehan, and llewi will go to Waikato on Thursday. His Excellency will rfcturn on Saturday, leaving for Tauranga on Monday.

An accident occurred to-day to a horse ■coming down from the railway station yards with a load of coal. In crossing the points its foot got entangled. By the assistance of a blacksmith it was freed, but the leg vpai seriously wrenched and sprained. This is the third horse-accident that has happened while crossing the rails, and the department is to blame for not adopting some remedial measures. _AH gordi from the shed require to cross the line, and I here is no properly-prepared crossing :ft>r the purpose.
