OTAGO PENINSULA AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

President, W. J. M. Larnach, Esq.; VicePresidents, Messrs John Maclean and John Mathiaon ; Secretary, Mr William Dick ; Treasurer, Mr Walter Eiddall; Committee, Messrs John G. Lewis, H. Duckmanton, Joasph Young, James Lewis, Alex. Stewart, James Sim, Gavin Fleming, Cochrane.Weir, Kobert Landreth, Eobert Braid, S. Parmenter, Andrew Eeid, John L. M'Gregor, William Saunderson, sen., Alex. Mathison, and Thomas Smithison. The First Annual Show held in connection with the above Society, though a somewhat, modest effort, passed off with remarkable saccess. Fortunately the weather held fine throughout the day, the sun's genial rays making the weather almost as pleasant as could be wished. The show was held in Mr Sim's jad deck, a few hundred yards past the Highcliffe Hotel, and was visited by about 600 persons, amongst whom the fair sex was very conspicuous. This being the inaugural show the priza list could not be expected to be a very extensive ono. Taken on . the whole, the exhibits were, however, of a superior description, particularly in the dairy produce department. Neither ought too much to be said about the method of management observed on the occasion; Still we are constrained to say that a little improvement in this respect ia rather desirable. There were no arrangements like those met with in other Societies, by which the representatives of the Press could obtain the names of the prize-takers, except at the greatest possible inconvenience. At other shows the Secretary is generally supplied with the Judges' books immediately after their decisions have been made, and he hands themto the rei)oi tws to obtain from them the requisite information, and the Otago Peninsula Society would do well in future to adopt this system if they desire the public to be acquainted with the results of the exhibition with promptness andaccuiaoy. However, this little drawback will probably not occur wVen ths Society ha 3 bees able to e.-tablish itself as firmly as it is bound to do witiiin a very short space of time.
