PERSONAL.

Tho name of the Rev. James Cameron, of tho Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland, has been added to the list of officiating ministers under " The Marriage Act, 1851." The following appointment-! in the Volunteer force have been gazetted : —Alfred Webber to be Captain of the Dunedin South District Sohool Cadets ; Frank Henderson to be SubLieutenant of the Riverton Rifles. The resig nations of Captain J. Wilson, of the Dunediu City Guards, and of Sub-Lieutenant J. S. Aldred, of the Queenstown Rifles have beeu accepted. On tho evening of the 28th of September, a public meeting, convened under the auspices of the Welcome All Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held in the school-house, West Taieri, for the purpose of talcing leave of Bro. the Rev. J. Lothian, who ia about to enter,upon the office of the ministry in the Presbyterian Church of Otago. Bro. Dr James M'Brearty was called to the chair. After a plentiful and excellent tea, several capital Bongs, recitations, dialogues, &c, were given in good style by Messrs Dow, Mitchel, M'Diarrnid, S. Jago, Tomison, Langwill, Cuthbertson, Joseph, and Mann ; while Mis Farrar presided at the harmonium. During the courso of the evening tho Chairman, on behalf cf members of the Lodge and of other friends in the district, took occasion, in a few well choßen remarks, to present Bro. Lothian with a valuable testimonial of their respect and eateem, iv the form of a number of handsome volumes of standard works on theology, philosophy, and general literature, including Lange's commentary, several volumes of the works of Professors Bain and Fawcett, Buckle's llistory of Civilisation, and others. JBro. Lothian most cordially thanked tho members and friends present for their useful aud valuable gift. Ho considered it no small mark of esteem that «o many had ventured out to the meeting on co inclement a night, and concluded by making some earnest and impressive remarks on religion, education, and temperance in relation to the laying the foundation of a new country. Suitable addresses were also given by Mr J. W. Joseph, who alluded to the good work which Bro. Lothian had done for temperance siuce ho camo among them three years ago ; and also by Bros, Maun, M'Pherson, and Flerciug, who all united in expressing their hearty good wishes towards Mr Lothian on his departure to enter the sacred calling of tha ministry. Ths meeting was brought to a close, after the usual vote of thanks, by Bingiug an appropriate Temperance ode. Sergeant Barry has been appointed Inspector of Weights and Measures at Tuapeka. H. Hale has been appointed Examiner of Titles in Otago, and H. A. Gilles to be Chief Clerk in the Laud Transfer Department, Dunedin, vice Smith, resigned. Sigismund Kohn has been appointed SubLieutenant of the No. 1 Company Volunteers, Dunedin.

E. Buslie, T. Evans, TV. H. Miller, Jno. Ross, and 11. Sutherland have beea appointed members of the Botrd cf Wardens, Tuapeka, It. Buslie being Chairman. The Rev. It. L. Stanford, who has been curate of All Saints' Parish for six years, on Sunday, 29th nit., officiated at that church for the la3t time, be having accepted an invitation to open a school nt Orakanui. At the conclusion of the evening service, Mr James Asbcroft, on behalf of tha churchwardens and vestrymen, presented Mr Stanford with a handsomely illuminated address, which was worded as follows:—" To the Eev. Kobert Loftus Stanford, 8.A., Curate of All Saints' Parish, Dnnedin.—Eeverend and Dear Sir—Upon the occasion of your resigning the pastoral charge of the parish of All Saints, we desire to express our regret at tho severance of the tie which has united us together as pastor and people since the year 1872. _ _ We cannot_ but recognise the energy and ability, and the independence of character, which you have at all times displayed in the -iischargo of your sacred duties. We are sensible also of tlie very many acts of personal kindness and hospitality shown towards the members of your congregation and others both by yourself and Mrs Stanford. In saying farewell, we sincerely olfer to Mrs Stanford and yourself our acknowledgements and our earnest wishes for your success in your ne*v and important career, and for the happiness of yourself and family. On behalf of the congregation, we are, &c." Mr J. W. Morrish, the organist, also presented him with au address from the choir. It ran as follows:•—" Rev. and dear Sir —On this the last Sunday of your ministrations to us, we, the members of ths choir, wish to express our deep regret at the loss of a faithful pastor and kind friend, as well as a warm supporter and advocate in matters reative to the musical portion of our Church service. Tho unbroken harmony existing between yourself and the choir has been a source of great gratification, to us, and Ehall always bo looked back upon with pleasure. We are," &c. The Itev. Mr Stauford acknowledged tho presentations in suitable terms.

The resignation of Lieutenant J. J. E. M'Kenzie, of tho Wakari Rifles, has bseu accepted. The services of No. 2 Company Wakari Rifles have beon accepted.
