AGRICULTURAL.

The annual meeting of the Clutha Agricultural Society was. held at the Crown Hotel, Balclutha, on the evening of the 7th. Mr P. Ayson occupied the chair, and there were about 25 members present. The annual 'balance sheet showed that the total receipts amounted to the sum of £147 T7s, and the expenditure to £138 Oa 2d, which, with a sum of £4 still due to the Society, leffc a balance of £13 16s lOd. Mr George Scott was unanimously elected President, and Mr James Petrie Vice-President. The following gentlemen were elected as a Working Committee.:'— Messrs J. Watt, J. M'Neil, J. M'Farlane, J. Whyte, A. Petrie, P. Ayson, J. Scott, A. Watt, R. Clark, J. Bruce, G. M'Donald, G. Todd, T. Blacklock, J. 0. Anderson, R. Moir, W. Hay, J. Robinson, J. Cousens, J. M'Leay, J. Dunne, W. Christie. The Secretary (Mr Tosh), and the Treasurer (Mr Ritchie) were unanimously re-elected. It was decided to hold the Walking Show on Saturday, 6th October, and the Stock Show on Wednesday, sth December.

A good deal of interest was taken in the Papakaio ploughing match..on the Bth, from the fact that it was known that some of tbe best ploughmen in the Middle Island intended competing, and also that the match for £20 aside, between J. Allan and Alex. Clydesdale, would take place. Charles White, of the Taieri, with a Fowler plough, took the first prize in the champion clas?, although his ploughing varied from that of all- the others. Allan took the second prized Thomas Dick the third, and M. Clydesdale the fourth.
