FIRE BRIGADE AT MORNINGTON.

A public meeting was held at the Mornington H°tel last evening for the purpose of forming a Volunteer "Fire Brigade in the district. Tbe chair was taken by The Mayor (Mr Barr), who explained the object of the meeting, and pointed out the advantages that would accrue from having an organised brigade. He thought that in a short time they would obtain help from the Duuedin Fire Brigade. A gentleman present said that the Dunedin Brigade would be most happy to render a new brigade any help within their power. The first thiDg to be done, wa«j to get the names of those willing to join, then the wayß and means, and lastly the necessary plant. It was then proposed and seconded— " That the residents of Mornington recognise

the desirability of forming a Fire Brigade in the district."—Carried.

Twenty-six names of those willing to join were handed in to Mr Armstrong, the Secretary pro tern...[

Jt was resolved to hold another meeting at the Hall on Fiiday night, at which to elect officrrs, &c.

A vote of thanks to the Mayor for pre siding was carrid by acclamation.
