Gilmorb, Esq., Westport B. E. Oxner, Ksq, West- R. Kowiands, Esq., Westport port, and J. Mills, Esq., Union S.S. C. G. Andrews, Esq., Company, Dunedin Westport The object of this Company is to work a coalmining lease of 800 acres, situated at Waimangaroa Basin, Mount Rochfort Coalfield, near Westport. The ground comprised in th's leasa has been very carefully selected from three prospecting areas of 5008 acres, and about £1000 has been expended in obtaining the lease, prospecting, surveys, and other works necessary to prove the mine. In reference to th!s lca?e, Mr R. B. Denniston, Government Coal Viewer, in his evidence given before the Royal Commission at Westport, says:—"The total tonnage in this leaso, including the East and West slopes, is about 3,600,000 tons, the coal being of the best quality." The report of analysis of coal from this part of the field at Woolwich Do.-kyard shows that it is equal to the best noi th of Englaud coal for steam purposes (vide admiralty report on .Kelson cdil presented to Nelson Provincial Council, March 16th, lsstlG). The railway is completed and open for traffic from Westport to Waimangaroa, and the Wellington Coal Company have made a blanch line of one mile.flve chains in length up the river, and from this point, it is pioposod to make a tramway to the coal, about two miles in length. The Government coal waggons will be loaded at end of Tramway line, thence forwarded over Government railway to Westport where there is now building railwjy wharf, sfeuion, sidings, and a large viaduct and coal staiths, from which the coal will be shipped direct into the vessels. The port of Weßtport offers great facilities tor shipping. The average depth of water of the bar being VI to 15ft., and it is expected when the Protective Works, now in course of construction, are completed, the depth will be increased to from 18 to 20ft. By careful computation it Ins 'oeen estimated that the cost of opening up aud connecting tlio mine With the Government railway, including all necessary plant, will not exceed £15,000, and further, the coal can be shipped free on board at Westport at 83 per tsn. The terms of the leaso will compel the Company to have the mine in working order early in 1878, so that shareholders may rely on having returns for their money within 12 months. Prospectuses and forms of application for Shares may be obtained of KEITH RAMSAY, Agent, 18ap Jetty street, Dunedin PELL AN D CO, BROKERS, AKD GENERAL COMMISSION MERCHANTS, Dukewh. WJa
