Thursday, 22nd February

Stealing Property prom the Kaib. — William Forsyth, a mere boy, was charged with having, on the Ist February, stolen from the Heads a grey mare with saddle and bridle, the property of George Robertson. On the application of Inspector Mallard, the prisoner, who had been arrested at O&maru on Wednesday, was remanded to Port Chalmers. Vagrancy. — Mary Allan, an old offender, against whom 50 previous convictions were recorded, was sentencsd to three months' imprisonment for vagrancy. Extensive Larcenies.—Francis J. Carey and Thomas Webb were charged with stealing a quantity of lead valued at ss, the property ot Mr H. S. Fish. The prisoner Webb pleaded Guilty. Both prisoners pleaded Guilty to a charge of stealing a dog valued at £5, the property of Robert Braid. Inspector Mallard asked that the case be adjourned till Tuesday next, as a lot of valuable dogs had been stolen, and the Police were making enquiries and might be able to tiace them to the possession of the prisoners. The Court granted the application.

Receiving Stolen Goods. —Mcc Wah was charged with having on the 14th February received from the prisoners Webb and Carey a certain quantity of lead piping knowing that it had been stolen. On the application of Mr Duncan, who appeared for the accused, the case was adjourned till Tuesday next. Trespassing on the Ralwats,—Alexander Pindlater, James Paterson, and Robert Johnson were respectively charged with having been guilty of trespassing on the Dunedin and Port Chalmers Railway line at the rear of Findlay's workshop. Inspector Mallard stated that constant complaints were being made of pet-sons walking along tho railway lines. The Court dismissed the defendants with a strong caution.
