Auckland, February 21st.

• A memorial from business men has been presented to the Railway Commissioners praying for the removal of the Railway Station from Britomart to Queen street Wharf, or some central terminus. The Commissioners sat at Onehunga to-day. Witnesses deposed to excessive charges, that goods were spoilt by being left out all night, and that a package the size of a hs.il was charged as quarter of a ton. A witness from Waikato complained of excessive freight charged on timber.

Pumping out the coffer dam of the new do;k was resumed to-day. The leak is not yet stopped.

The Harbour Board have finally resolved not to deepen the dock.

At Ngaruawahia, a man named Samuel Morgan was murdered by a Maori, named Te Patui, in the lock-up. Morgan has lived witb. the King Natives as a Pakeha-Maori, but was driven out by the Kingites, and a few days ago was sentenced to imprisonment, by the Resident Magistrate, for vagrancy. The murderer was a fellow-prisoner with. Morgan. The Maori escaped on Detective Doolan's horse, which was outside, but was recaptured near Alexandra. The gaol is said to be insecure.

Later. Tho Maori, Patui, who murdered his fellow-prisoner, Morgan, last night by cu'l ting his throat in the gaol at 3Sfgaruawahia, having been recaptured, was taken before Major Mair this morning, He confessed to the murder, and said Morgan was constantly cursing him, which made him augry, so lie killed Morgan.

Hoiutika, February 21st. The Governor has just landed in the midst of a heavy shower, after crossing a rough bar. The Hinernoa stood out to sea. The Governor was driven to Government House. The Westland Rifles were present as a guard of honour; aDdthe local bodies were represented,..'but...the intended demonstration was impossible.

Cheistchurch, February 21st. A new Athletic Association has been formed by old college boys.
