Every person who shall actually receive money or other valuable consideration for abstaining to bid for or compete for the purchase of any Crown Lands which shall have been advertised for tale by public _ auction, and whether or not the same land shall be 1 put up for sale by public auction, shall be deemed to have been guilty of a misdemeanour, and shall on conviction thereof be liable to be imprisoned with or without hard labour for any peiiod not exceeding two ye rs, or fined iany sum hot exceeding five hundred pounds.
