GENERAL CONEERENCE.
— » . ■ ;. A general conference of the South Dunedin and St. Kilda Municipal Councils and the Caversham Road Board was held last evening at the Council Chambers, f South Dunedin. Present—Mesars Rutherford (in the chair), lyiomann, Hodges, Arnold, Wilson, Jackson, Langmuir, Jones, Rougbton, Bridgman, M'lntyre, Maloney, Barrowman, Thomson, Mitchell, and Dodds (Secretary). TRAMWAYS. Mr Maloney move,!—" That this Conference agree to arrange with Mr David Proudfoot for the construction of a tramway from the city boundary along the main road to the Ocean Beach, and along the Cargill Road to Caver, sham, on the same conditions as in the city, except the rates of rent and penalty for ncncompletiou within the specified time; the rent - to be LSO per annum, and the penalty L2OO ; the cars to run to Caversham aad the Ocean Beach alternately; the time to be extended'to eighteen months, and the fares each way from the Post Office to the terminus to be 3d." . Mr M'lntstse seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. An amusing discussion took place as to how the rent should be divided, and it was eventually resolved that the matter be deferred for -• future consideration. The following motion was carried:—" That the resolution be referred to Mr JDavid Proudfoot, and that the same deputation a3 formerly wait upon him, and be empowered to act upon the conditions if accepted by him." WATER SUPPLY AND AMALGAMATION. It was resolved that the question of water supply and amalgamation between CUversham, South Dunedin, and St. Kilda be deferred for consideration at a future meeting of the Conference. COMPLIMENTARY. The following motion, proposed by Mr Jones, Mayor of St. Kilda, was carried by acclamation:—"That this Conference desires . to record its recognition of the valuable services rendered by Mr Barrowman." Mr Barrowman, in briefly returning thanks, referred to his projected departure for Greymouthy He trusted that the districts of South... Dunedin, St. Kilda, and Caversham wouldalways be found harmoniously working together. The Conference rose at 10 p.m.
