HOPPER DREDGERS.

The following letter has been placed at our disposal :— London Works, Renfrew, Uth October, 1876. Dear Sir—We were extremely obliged by your favour of 21st August, and the extracts and newspapers enclosed. We think if your Jorporations study the interests and economy of their respective sea-board districts and ports, they cannot fail in ordering one or two of our new combined hopper dredgers. Last week we despatched the seventh to Newhaven, Sussex, where she is now dredging. We have mentioned your reclamation Hopper scheme to several contractors, and have the photographs hung in our office; but trade is so dull in this country just now that it may be some time before it is adopted. We will keep it in view should we learn of any extensive embanking going on, for which we think it exceedingly well suited.—Yours, &c, . Wm. Simons and Co. ! W. Gr. Jenkins, Esq., Stafford street, Dunedin. A photograph of the hopper dredger j Willunga, which was described in our shipping columns a short time ago, is exhibited in Mr B. Isaac's shop, Princes street. The WilluDga ia now due at Adelaide. A congress of chimneysweeps assembled recently at Cassel to prepare a petition to the German Reichstag for uniform legislation throughout the empire, and to arrange for a central hospital and asylum for the sick widowa and orphans.
