The Canterbury Fire Brigade will hold a torchlight procession in Christchurch on the evening of their anniversary day. The Lyttelton Times this morning, referring to the Uounty elections, says :—"Out of the thirteen ridings of which we have so far received r.ewß, nine have returned members without opposition or nomination ; one does not- care for a member at all, and only in three are there to be contested elections. The attendance of electors cannot be described as magnificent. The accounts vary from a few persons to a concourse of two. The people do not seem to be frantically enthusiastic about the establishment of the County system."

The annual show of the Southland Agricultural Society was held to-day, and was a great success. There were 400 entries. The show of cattle, sheep, and horses is exceptionally good. The weather is highly favourable, and there is a large fittendanco of visitors.

Information from Fortrose is to the effect that tho William Ackers broke up on Tuesday night. The timber is now neen floating on the beach.
