The Bank of New Zealand ha 3 objected to offering the City Council Supplementary Water Works Loan of £25,000, authorised last session, on the ground that it was ultra vires, the special rate which formed the security being already pledged for the first loan of £100,000. The Council is compelled to wait till next session, and meanwhile to incur a bank overdraft for the completion of the works.

The Waste Lands Board has resolved to sell the lands required for Mr Brooinhall and Mr Pritchard's opecial settlements at the rate of £1 an acre, 10s to be redeemed in improvements and introduction of >nimigrants. Mr Vesey Stewart, of Katikati, has also purchased 10,000 acres on the same terms. The miners of the Thames were strongly opposed to the alienation of the Upper Thames blocks, applied for by Mr Bvooinhall.
