THE COMING LICENSING MEETING.
10 THE KDITOS.
Sir —Your correspondent is neither a teetotaller nor a Good Templar, is not interested in the sale or consumption of any kind of fermented or spirituous liquors, or connected in any manner with tbe public house interest, but is simply an ordinary citizen who desjres to " say his say " in your colu»nns concerning the approaching licersing meeting. Your correspondent has no objection whatever to the granting of licenses to bona fide hotels, inns, and taverns, where such establishments are absolutely^ needed; but objects strongly to the flaming public-house or gin palace, with its flashy corner bar and ita iniquitous roaring bar trade. Your correspondent read with much satisfaction Lhat at the last licensing meeting, the Commissioners had announced that they would grant no more licences to houses with^ these corner bars, and your correspondent desires to express his sincere hope that they will carry out strictly and sternly (as in the interests of decency and morality it is absolutely necessary they should do) this very proper decision.—l am, &c, Citizen.
