Drunkenness.—John Thomas was fined ss, with tho option of 24 honrs' imprisonment. James M'Pherson, who had former convictions recorded against him was fined 40s, in default •48 hours' imprisonment Sailors Ashork —Alexander Beam, a seaman, was charged with committing a breach of the peace in Walker street. Constable M'Donald stated his attention was called, at half-past one in the morning to prisoner kicking the door of a brothel in Machines right of-way; when asked to desist and go away, he made use of an insulting, expression to witness, who locked him up. Prisoner said he was not making the noise com plained of, but was struck by the Constable in the mouth.—He was'discharged and advised to keep better,-company. William Candy, mate of* the last prisoner, was charged with attempting to rescue a prisoner from legal custody. Constable > M'Donald deposed that after arresting Beam, accused came rip and ordered witness to-Jet him go. He also laid his hands on, him. Accused denied interfering with the Constable to any further extent than asking' him vrhy he hal struck his mate. —The Bench dismissed him with a caution.

A Vagrant.—Michael Connolly, a roughlooking lad, who got a bad character from Sergeant Anderson and Defective Bain, was charged with having no lawful means of support.—He was sentenced to a month's, impri • sonment with htird labour.

A Youthful Housebreaker. — Michael Walsb, a boy about ten years of age, and companion of Morissey, who was sentenced to a whipping the other day, was charged^on the information of Detective Bain, with having,l on the 23rd May, feloniously entered a hut at Bellknowes, and stolen a leather purse therefrom containing twelve £1 notea and some silver,—Prisoner cleared .out for. ,the',coiiata after the offence had been" committed, and when in Dunedin assisted Morissey to spend the money in hiring horses and riding about. — His father asked for a remand, in order to get professional assistance.—The hearing was adjourned till Monday, Walsh senior being required to enter into recognizances for his sun's appearance on that day.
