SALE OF CROWN LANDS.
It will be seen from the Provincial Government Gazette that a very large extent of land is now offered for application and sale, in sections of about 200 acres each. This land is part of the Hundreds which were declared at the last session of the Provincial Council, and extends from the Pomahaka River right across the low undulating country to the Mataura River. The whole block comprises about 100,000 acres, which is, without exception, the finest piece of Crown lands now remaining unsold in this Prevince. Indeed, taking into consideration that the Southern Trunk Railway runs through it for many miles, also its rich coal deposits, the low elevation of the country, the natural fertility of the soil, there is no doubt that a finer black oi land was never before opened for settlement in Otago. The Government is exercising its authority to the fullest extent in interspersing this extensive domain with deferred payment sections, and is also opening up the deferred payment areas first, thereby giving the selectors on them the opportunity of afterwards adding to their allotments by purchase if they are able and willing to do so. Intending settlers who are desirous of securing homes in a locality which by means oi railway communication is now within easy distance of market, should not let the present opportunity pass, as it is well known that the urea of country suitable for settlement on a smnll scale is now pretty nearly exhausted. It may be added that the Government is affording every facility to intending selectors to make themselves acquainted with the land in question by issuing lithographed maps as tli-j blocks are advertised in the Gazette.
