INTERPROVINCIAL ITEMS.

Wellington, April 17th. The land sales have been very good for some time. The total amount received this year will be £50,000 or £60,C00 in excess of the estimate made by the Governmeut last session of the Provincial Council.

Today was a general holiday. The athletic BDorts were attended by 2500 people. Sir Julius and Lady Vogel were present.

Auckland, April 17th. 1000 people attended the races to-day, including the Governor and suite. Trial Stakes, 1£ mile; weight for age. Iziac Walton, 3yrs, 1; May Moon, 4yrs, 2 ; Polly Plum, aged, 3. Seven started. May Moon led to within fifty yards of the chair, when Izaac was let out, and won easily.

The Tradesmen's Plate was won by Perfume ; Polly Plum, 2 ; Isabell, 3. Perfume won easily. Hurdle Race, two miles. Perfume, 1; Mystery, 2 ; Gladstone, 3. Deception and Medea also started, ferfume took kindly to the timber, and scored a clever win. Easttr Handicap, one mile and a half. Isaac Walton, 1; Bedouin, 2; May Moon. 3. Eclipse, Belle, and Deception also started. It was a good race, won by half a length. Brown, Clerk of the Course, was thrown from his horse, and had a narrow escape.

Arrived.—Barracouta, from Fiji.

Christchurch, April 17th. The Annual Prize Meeting of the Canterbury Rifle Association opened to-day. The weather was bad, but there was a large attendance of competitors, including three from Dunedin. The shooting was good. Lieutenant Pel], of Dunedin, tied for the first prize in the match for the President's prizes, but was defeated in shooting off, so he only, takes second prize.
