Grahamstown, January 26th. In the Wardens' Court to-day a complaint was brought by Mr Louis Ehrenfried against Mr Jackson, to recover damages for fraudulent representation in connection with a transaction in the Tairua scrip. The plaintifi' alleged the defendant represented to him that there were 300 tons of quartz in Bight ■which would crush 10oz. to the ton, and that he was only selling because he was pushed for money, and would not sell any more shares for three months. The complainaut states that he bought 2CO shares from the defendant, and there were not as alleged 300 tons of quartz worth lOoz. per, fcon. Messrs Tyler and Hesketh appeared for the plaintiff, and Messrs M'Donald and M'Coraiack for tlie defendant. The latter took objection that the Warden had no jurisdiction. Counsel argued tho-point for some time, and the Warden agreed that he had no power to hear the eaee. . The Budget this evening publishes the contents of a private letter received from Hawea relative to Casey. Some mon inter--1 viewed1 Casey, and demanded where he got the quartz which he took to Auckland. Casey declined to give any information as to where it had been found. On being further questioned, he gave the questioners to understand that the quartz was got in the Taranaki Province. Casey said if he made r it known where he found it he would not get . protection, as it was got on Maori land, but he said it will be known by-and-bye. The writer says that Casey has been at the Thames, and managed a claim there, and ■ that-he is a man of very good character.
