THE SCARLET FEVER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sm—lt Is pleasing to find by Dr Gilliea's retwrt this morning published by you that nil the known cases in" the city am convalescent, and that all the patients in I£s Hospital tente are so fully lecovered as to ba allowed home this week. The latter circumstance is confirmatory of the opinion that aucb tents or similar temporary arrangemants are all that was necessary to meet tho requirements of the ease, and that the erection of a permanent Hospital was Bcarcely needed, irrespective of the illogal proceeding of placing it on tho Town Belt. It has been insinuated by an anonymous writer in, an evening paper that your corres pondent w actuated mainly byjxarsonal and selfish motives in the hostile attitudes he has OKaumed to the placing of the hospital where it is, bo near by his dwelling. Supposing it were bo, I might well 03k, Why not? Sinca the building in question would be ft manifest damage and injury to the value of all property situate near it, r.nd I am quite clear that a good claim for such damage would lie on the ground of such a building being placed on land granted for the recreation of the inhabitants. However, personally I don't care a straw for the proximity of the hospital to my residence, tmd would ba equally opposed to it had it been placed on any other part of the Belt. It 13 remarkable that His Worship the Mayor has been so dilatory in dealing with the " weighty" protest which was presented to him some time ago on this subject. I think it would have been his place and duty to have called aspooial meeting of the Council to consider it—Yours, &c., W. Lahqlands.
