WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The regular weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was helil yesterday. There were present—Mr Strole, in .he chair, and Messis Reid, Bastings, Clark, and Butterworth. JMiUTIXTION ASKED. Mr E. Dooley applied for two years' protection for road leading to his coal pit on section 4, Kawarau district, and which was stated to have been formed by hiuzself at considerable expense. It was resolved that a license be granted to Mr Dooley for the piece of land forming the road, at a rental of 10s per annum, for the period requested (two years). KOWROU COAL PIT —ALTERATION OF TERMS OF LEASE. Mr J. S. Webb, as agent for Mr W. B. Cairns, applied for alteration of the terms of the lease of the coal area on Kowrou Run, in the event of Mr Cairns taking an assignment of the lease from Messrs Barrett and Burnett, the present lessees, who wished to throw up the lease. The present rental is LlO per annum, and the maximum price of coal at pit's mouth, 10s per ton. The Board resolved that, subject to Messrs Barrett and Burnett assigning the lease to Cairns, the rent would be reduced to Lf> per annum, and the maximum rate allowed to be charged for coal increased to los per ton. THE HIVKIt STYX —APPLICATION' FOR LAND. Mr James Tannahill wrote respecting his application previously lodged for the purchase of 23 or 50 acres at the river Styx. Applicant had formerly applied for 25 acres, and the Board could not grant him less than 50 acres. It was resolved that applicant be requested to survey the 50 acres now applied for, and to obtain runholder's consent, when his request would be considered by the Board. TENDER I'OU THE SALE OF CROWN LANDS; Mr R. (t. Creagh tendered for the sale of Crown lands on the Heriot, Tapanui, Otakeramu, Landslip Hill, and North and South Orleukenicli Hundreds, at £ per cent commission. It was agreed that—" The districts named being included in other auctioneers' districts, the Board cannot at present interfere. The Board suggest that another district be formed, consisting of Tapanui and Wakaia in the meantime ; land in the Tapanui district to be sold by auction at Tapanui." DECLINED TO INKEKFKIIE. Mr W. H. S. Roberts requested the plan of his deferred payment license for section 47, block VII, Wn.ipa.hee, might be altered to embrace part of section 71, instead of section (39. He also stated that the surveyor, in surveying the township of Waipahse, intended alter ing the peg of section 5, block IV.. against which he (Mr Roberts) protested. The Board " under the circumstances, declined to interfere." AOKTCULTURAL LEASE LAND. The Board considered the application of Mr Ferguson to purchase land held by him under agricultural leases 3201? and 3:Wa, Table Hill district. It uas resolved —" Purchase to be allowed, provided rent is paid up to date of first application to purchase. SWITZEHS COM MONACK. —INSPECTOR, APPOINTED. The Government recommended the appointment of Ranger Hughan as Inspector for the Switzers commonage, aud the appointment was agreed to. MID-WAKATIP DISTRICT —APPLICATION FOR LAND FOR LTXIK-BUHNIXC I Mr Edward Burrows applied for a license i under the 91st clause of the Act, to occnjpy five acres behind section 25, block VI., MidWakatip district, for lime-buming purposes. The application was referred to the District Land Officer for his report. HAVELOCK TOWNSHIP. —LAND FO.it RAILWAY. The District Engineer forwarded tracing of land in "Havelock township required foj^ railway purposes, part section 1, block XXV. The matter was " noted r,)K( referred to Survey j Department."

" pnoPEit i''oir:<r," Mr Ostin, on behalf of a friend of his, whose name and the number of whose run he had been requested not to mention, asked whether a pre emptive right could be altered to another place r.n the same run after survey, explaining that, if it could be so altered, an application would then be made by the person wanting the alteration. The Board recommended that the application should be made in proper form— [ that is to say, that the name of applicant, the [ number of the ran, and the alteration desired, i should be stated. No answer would be made !to so general a question, but ff the particulars i were given, the Board would not see any hardship done, and would deal with the case on its merits. As to the non-disclosure of the name, it was remarked that there was no occasion whatever for keeping it back, and that the Board would deal with the matter apart from personal considerations. The minute recorded was — " Recommended that the application should be renewed in proper form." QUARRY IIESKRVE, WAtHor,A. —APPLICATION TO PURCHASE. Messrs Gillies and Street, on behalf of Mr William Kait, applied to purchase- quarry reserve on section 16, block IT., Waihola district, two and a half acres. The application was referred to the Ranger for his report. THE CnUTrFA SAXD-SI'JT IVEASE. Messrs Comiell and Moodie, far Mr E. Murphy, enquired whether the Superintendent's consent to extension of lease of the Clutlia Sand-spit had been obtained. The matter had been delayed already to allow of a member of the Government being present at the Board meeting, and Mr Reid had now returned from Wellington. It was found that the matter had been already decided, that the lease as extended would be granted ; and Mr (Joimell took his leave, expressing his- satisfaction.
