The schooner Isabella Anderson, which arrived off the Heads on Sunday morning, worked up to the Maori Kaik yesterday, and there anchored. She is from Timaru with a cargo of wool. She was still oft the Kaik' the last thing last night. The schooner Wanganui came down to the Port yesterday for the purpose of being docked to receive repairs rendered necessary through her taking the ground on the Westport bar. lier keel and kelson are to be replaced by new ones.

A misprint in our report of the ship Janet Cowan in yesterday's issue produced a mi ..take that would appear absurd to the initiated. The words the ship rolling heavily at times, nearly dipping her main " sail." For sail read "rail."

The barque Record, bound to Newcastle, put to sea yesterday forenoon, and cleared the harbour under canvas.

The passengers per ship Janet Cowan were cmveyed to Dunedin by the sttamer Golden Age. The Age also transhipped the sheep brought by the ship Florence, and landed them at Dunedin.

Tlie cutter Hope and schooner Pioneer are lying at the old steamboat jetty, Dunedin, painting and repairing, aiid making other preparations for another long spell of work. The Hope is on the berth for Toi Tois, and the Pioneer wiil likely resume her old running to Shag Point in a few days.

Finishing touches to the new steamer Shag's outfit are being given as sho lies at the Stuart street^Jetty. She shyuld be ready to commence running this week. The steamer Taranaki left- yesterday afternoon on her return North. Seventeen passengers left in her, but, owing to holiday time, she ouly secured 15 tons of caigo.

The steamer Lady ol the Lake came down from Dunedin yesteiday, and weut alongside the Mataura to tranship some cylinders. She will leave for the Molyneux when the weather moderates.

The steamer Bruce came down yesterday, and after receiving several p-issengers and their effects from the *hip Janet Cowan, steamed to the wharf, there received Duuedin passengers, and left for Timaru in the evening.

A general resumption of shipping business both at Port Chalmers and Dunediii was the chief charac.'eristic of yesteiday. At Rattray street Wharf, Dunedin, the brig Prairie commenced discharging the floor of timber upon which the horses Ehe brought across were stabled, and as besides that sho has only a few thousand shingles in, she expects to be clear of cargo to-night. Next to her, the schooner Euphrasy re began loading for Kaikoura, and the brig Pakeha ahead of her, again resumed discharging, and was reported to be not quite half out. The steimets Bruce and Wanganui, the one loading for Timaru and other ports, the other discharging Bluff cargo, lay at the usual berths, and the Samson astern of them was making ready for another trip to Oainaru. The schooners Jessie Niccol and George Noble lay at the partially-constructed cross section between the two wharves, the one in lavender, whilst the Noble began loading wool for Boston yesterday.

A fleet of small craft occupied the Jetty street wharf, the largest of them, the shooner Excelsior, at the outer berth. She is loading for Napier, and yesterday •was waiting for cargo. The new steamer Egmont was shipping cargo for Wanganui; the ketches Trial and Olive Branch were loading for Waikouaiti, and the cutter Dauntless for the same place, whilst the cutter Margaret Scollay was loading for Kakanui and Moeraki. A lot of lighters with cargo from the Port were discharging. The Stuart street wharf was lumbered with timber —at the outer end disgracefully so we may remark— and, as a consequence, the ketch Edith Reid, with coal from the Molyneux, had to lay idle, for want of room to place her cargo. Astern of her, the ketch Kestrel commenced to discharge; and the ketch Huon Belle also. The schooner Mabel Jane hauled away from the wharf at high water, and moored in the stream, preparatory to berthing at one of the other piers, where she will load for Southland. The cutter Jane and ketch Fanny, both clear of cargo, occupied outside berths.

The Eastern Monarch, emigrant ship, bound for New Zealand, with ne irly 600 Government emigrants, had a narrow escape from shipwreck on the Low Sunday Isles, near the Equator, which are now omitted from the maps. Crossing the line had been celebrated in the usual way, and the sailors, it is stated, had too much whisky. A passenger writes: —We were awoke June 6th at five, by the noise of the hands rushing to and fro on deck. In-about two minutes we were all ordered on deck. I cannot say how we dressed; some were crying, and :tll running we know not where. As Boon as we reached the deck we discovered that the ship was only a stone's throw from a large rock. In a minute more we should have been all to the bottom. The watch was asleep. A passenger discovered the danger and ran to the cook, who ran iuto the cabin and pulled the mate out of bed. When the mate saw the danger he was greatly alarmed. Tliey were all equal to the emergency, and in a minute we were safe.—-Invergorden News.
