CAVERSHAM ROAD BOARD. The regular meeting of the Caversham Road Board was held on Wednesday evening. Present: All the members; Mr Rutherford in the chair. Messrs Rutherford and Bridgman reported that they had had an interview with Jlr Brodrick with reference to the quarry, and that he had agreed to give land for land ior the closed road, and also a right-of-way over his priv.te roads leading to the quarry, ou condition that •the Board kept these roads in repair. A letter was received from the Dunedin, Peninsula, and Ocean Beach Railway Company requesting permission to use a portion of the road-line along the back of the sandhills for railway purposes, ami ottering in lieu thereof a road •on Mr Proudfoot's property. The Clerk was in•structed to inform tbe Company that the re•quired permission would be granted on conditions be arranged with Jlr U'Ren. A letter was received from the Chairman of the Central Board ol Health requesting information as to the sanitary state •of the district. Consideration of the matter was de- . ferred. The clerk was instructed to write to the City Council ot Dunedin, and again urge the removal of the manure depot, as the Board has now the power, under •the Public Health Act, 1572, to enforce its removal. Tbe Chairman, and Jlessrs Wilson and U'Ren, were •appointed a committee on bye-laws, and instructed to submit a report at next meeting. A deputation from Caldervi le requested that a special rate of one shilling • in tho pound should be levied on ratepayers, in Smith, Marrion, and David street, which was agreed to. The ■tender of Messrs Mitchell and Riley, £179 10s, for the formation and metalling of Royal Terrace, Kew, was accepted. The Inspector was instructed to spread clay •on Sealie.'d Road. Several accounts were passed for payment, and tho Board adjourned till 7th January, 1875.

THE CORPORATION LUNCHEON. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir.—Referring to Mr Kobert Gillies's letter herein, Jin this morning's paper, I have been requested to state that, on Tuesday last, the Council's Messenger delivered the usual circular at Mr Gillies's office, conveying an invitation to that gentleman from the Mayor to attend luueheon at the Council Chambers on Thursday, the 31st December, at 1 p.m.

It is matter of much regret that Mr Gillies missed luncheon, but the Council was not aware of his having resided his position as Director of the Duu■edin Water Works Company, consequently the invitation was addressed to Mr Gillies as chairman.—l am, Ac,
