PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL

A special meeting of the above Council was held on Monday evening. Present: His Worship tho Mayor; Councillors Miller, Middleditch, Menelaus, M'Kenzie, Aslier, M'Gregor, and Rose. • The Chairman stated that the meeting had been convened for tho purpose of receiving tli£ report of the Water Works Committee Upo:i the tenders which had been sent in. He might state that Mr Blair, District Engineer, had reported upon them, but that the communication was confidential. Mr Menelaus moved that the Water Works Committee's report be introduce :1. Mr Rose seconded the motion. Mr Miller moved as an amendment that Mr Blair's report be first read. Mr M'Gregob seconded. The Chairman ruled the amendment to lie out^of order, because the report was confidential. , The question was, however, put, and the amendment was lost, the proposer and seconder only voting for it. < The Committee's report was read. It recommended that Mr W. P. Pearce's tender for £7507 5s 2d should be accepted, providing funds" for its liquidation were forthcoming 'from the sale of the debentures; and to give the Corporation an opportunity of raising money on the debentures, a final decision be°withheld for another month. Mr M'Gregor moved that the report be referred back to the Water Works Committee until Mr flair's report was read. ivfi- Miller seconded. Mr AsIIBB moved that the report be read and adopted. . . • Mr M'Kenzie seconded. The amendment was carried by four w tWA motion by Mr M'Kenzie, to the effect that the deposit cheques of the three higher tenderers bo returned, was withdrawn by the consent of the Council. Tiie Chairman stated one tender for Corporation debentures had been received, _ Mr M'Kenzie moved that, as the meeting had T>een called for a special purpose, the consideration of the debenture question should be postponed until the Council met again, . . Seconded by Mr Asher, and carried. The Council then adjourned until that night three weeks.
