The Customs Eeturns show that £700 more was taken during the last four weeks than the previous four, while this month shows an increase of fifty per cent, over the corresponding month of last year. There is a steady sale of land privately at the Provincial Land Office.

Conley, a waterman, for haying 251bs of smuggled tobacco in his possession, was fined £100, or to be imprisoned until the fine is paid. The licensed victuallers presented £32 as a Christinas box to the Auckland charities.
