Bell, Esq., to sell by public auction, at his Farm, Meadow Bank, East Taieri (ten miles from Dwnedin), on Thursday, 22nd October. 1874, at 12.30 o'clock, The whole ef that gentleman's Waimea herd of. PURE SHORTHORNED CATTLE, Consisting of: i 9 hulls, from 0 months to 3 years old; o q heifers and cows. This Herd is sprung from Cows purchased from. Messrs Morton Bros. & Leach, of Mount Derrimut, Victoria, at their stle on sth November, 1807; the excellence of whose hen! is so well known throughout the Australian Colonies that further comment is almost unnecessary ; but the number of Prizes won by the original cows of the Waimea Herd in Australia, and the opinions of the Press thereon, pronounce them to be some of the very best animals ever exhibited by those distinguished breeders. Mr Bell's selections at the sale above; referred to comprised the April Flower tribe, descended from the Imported Cow Apiil Flower; Queen of the Butterflies, the best heifer of her year ; and her own sister, April Flower 3rd; Jessamine 3rd, winner of four first prizes; Jessamine 4th, also the winner of four first prizes, and the dam of the celebrated Jessamine Hilt acknowledged to be the best cow sold at the sale above-inentio*ed, and her offspring here, Waimea, Formosa, and Lady Valentine sustain her reputation : Jessamine 20th : Jessamine 24th; &c., &c, &c. SIRE. The principal sire used in the herd is Prince Frederick, bred by the late- Wm. Robertson, Esqi, of Colac, Victoria, out of the- imported cow Fanny, b3r the Beau. The Beau is by Youmr Rockingham, out of Lady Rockingham, a prize-whuier at the Royal Agricultural Society's Show, by Booth's Sir Roger, who left many prize-winners, and was used in the celebrated West Heath Herd, Ireland. The Beau has left the very best stock in Mr Robertson's Herd, and. his son, Prince Frederick, has been equally, successful in-New Zealand. The above Cattle are all in splendid conditiou^and, are open to inspection at any time.
