Wellington, September 11th. The N«w Zealand.. Onz-tte to-day, announces that Mr E. Pryce Houghtoh has been appointed Vice-Consul for Germany at Dimedin. The following gentlemen have been appointed Justices of the Peace — Chtistopher Bastian, Dnnrobin Station ; A. C. Bcgg. P. C. Boyes, E. Herbert, of Lawrence ;,H. Lyons, Riverfcon; J. M'Gregor, Burwood Station ; J. M'Neil, Balclntha; S. M. Ritchie, W. J. Steward. Waitaki. Lieut. W. E. Hey wood has been appointed to be Captain—date of commission Sept. 4ih—and to command the Volunteers in the Southland portion of the Province <f Otifjo. Mr E. H. Carev has been appoints el Auditor of Courts of L-av Trust Account* for Clutfca, and also Resident Magistrate for the sams district, wilh extended jurisdiction,
during the absence on leave of Mr J. P. Maitland. Mr J, Tarnbull has been appointed Eeident Magistrate for the district of Southland.
The Luna is to leave here at midnight for Mnnukau direct, with Mr VogeL The Luna remains there several days to await the Macgregor's mail and bring it South.
Captain Fairchild ia to go Home to purchase a new steamer for the Government in place of the Luna.

Auckland, September 11th. The Loch Urr arrived to-day from London, after a passage of 91 days from Gravesend> She brings no passengers. The Reform League have held a publip meeting, the Mayor Chairman, and passed resolutions in favour of the abolition of Pro yincialism throughout the Colony. They intend establishing Committees and branches of the Society in all parts of the Colony. Mr Buckland reports :—Fat Sheep.—G3o were sold at higher rate 3. Dairy cows, £5 to £9 10s ; calves, £1 5s to £2 2s. Fat cattle, 353 to 45a per lOOlbs. Sheep, 5d per 1b ; ewes and lambs, £1 4s 6d.
Mr Binney reports:—Breadstuffs are im-provin-j;. Flour, £13 10s to £14 ; oats^ as 3d to 6s 3d ; barley, 5s 6d ; wheat, 6s to fis 3.1. Butter is very scarce, at Is 3d. Cheese, B£d; ham and bacon, lOd to lid.
Napier, September 11th. At .the cattle sales held by Mr -M. R. Miller, 293 head of stock wr?re sold, the total amount realised being £1734.
CiiRTSTCUURCiT, September 11th. ; The following are the produce market quotations, free on board, at Lyttelton :— Wheat, 5s 3d ; oats, ss; barley, 5s G<l ; potatoes, £8 ; (Jour, £13 103; bran, £6; sharps, £6. The market is quite bare of barley and potatoes.
