THE VOLUNTEERS.
The sixth competition of tbe Wakari Rangers for Captain Flexman's Cup was fired yesterday morning. The unfavourable dull light and badly-painted targets were detrimental to tall scoring—the winner, Vol. W. H. Lacey, making an average of centres only. The contest was very close and keen throughout the match, especially at the 600 yards range, ties being decided, according to the Company rules, by the highest score at the longest range, and if a tie still occurred, by firing three shots at the longest range. Vols. Lacey and. Strode being ties, fired off with the following result :—At the firat shot each scored a centre; at the second shot each each again scored a centre;. at the third shot Lacey scored a bull's-eye, and Strode a centre, Lacey thus becoming the winner by one point. The conditions.were —Ranges, 200, 400, and 600 yards ; standing 200 yards, any position at 400. and 600; five shots at each range ; Winbledon targets throughout. The scores are as follows :—
